  • Harvard Medical School Leadership: Co-founded the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R); served as inaugural Director of Education and Program Director thru 2007, elevating the department to #2 nationally per U.S. News & World Report.

  • World Health Organization Global Leader Delivered 25 years of monthly research distributions to underserved regions; appointed Founding Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre (USA-478)—Emory's first in any field and 1 of only 7 worldwide in rehabilitation medicine.

  • Emory Medical School Department Chairman (2007 onward): Recruited to lead the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, expanding its impact with a focus on compassionate, patient-centered care for traumatic brain injury survivors; named one of Atlanta's Top Doctors by Atlanta magazine for nine consecutive years.

  • Founder of Medical Journal Rehab in Review: Established and served as Editor-in-Chief of the field's most widely circulated publication, now in its 35th year of monthly distribution; honored with global partnerships including WHO, International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, Association of Academic Physiatrists, and over 700 national societies/universities.

  • Innovative Teaching Pioneer: Championed integration of Interventional Spine procedures into residency curricula, reshaping the field and promoting equitable access to advanced care; today, it is one of PM&R's most sought-after subspecialties.
